Prof. Marzioni is a clinical gastroenterologist and hepatologist, Professor of Gastroenterology at the Clinic of Gastroenterology, Università Politecnica delle Marche – "Ospedali Riuniti" University Hospital of Ancona, Italy.
Prof. Marzioni got his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2000. From 2001 to 2003 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Medical Physiology, al Texas A&M University College of Medicine and Scott & White Memorial Hospital Health Science Center, Temple (Texas), USA. From 2002 to 2005 he attended the Postdoctoral School of Gastroenterology at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, obtaining his degree of Specialist in Gastroenterology. In 2005 he was nominated Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology at the Clinic of Gastroenterology, Università Politecnica delle Marche – School of Medicine and member of the Medical Staff at the “Ospedali Riuniti” University Hospital of Ancona, Italy.
Since 2005 he has been teaching Gastroenterology at the Medical School and at the Nursing School of the Università Politecnica delle Marche.
Prof. Marzioni is member of EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver), AISF (Associazione Italiana Studio Fegato), SIGE (Società Italiana di Gastroenterologia), SIED (Società Italiana di Endoscopia Digestiva), and AASLD (American Association for the Study of Liver Disease). From 2013 to 2016 he has been a member of the AISF Governing Board; from 2014 to 2016 he served as Secretary General of the association. Since 2015 he is advisor for gastroenterology and hepatology of the Italian Medicine Agency (AIFA).
Prof. Marzioni’s research activity has focused since the beginning on the pathophysiology of liver injury. In particular, his major interest is the study of the mechanism of regulation of cholangiocyte cell biology, injury, and repair. To date, his research activity out came in 105 original articles in the major hepatological and gastroenterological international journals.
