The European Research Council has published the first of three calls for proposals in its 2015/16 work programme from top researchers who wish to pursue breakthrough research in the EU. With a budget of 1.67 billion Euros for grants in 2015/16 the calls will support Starting Grants, Consolidating Grants and Advanced Grants.
The first call, published on 29 July, targets Starting Grants, aimed at researchers with 2-7 years post PhD experience and has a budget of €485 million. The deadline for applications is 17 November 2015.
The second call for mid-career Consolidating grants will open on 15 October 2015 (deadline 2 February 2016) and the third Advanced Grants call will open on 24 May 2016 with a deadline of 1 September 2016.
The ERC operates according to an "investigator-driven" (or "bottom-up") approach, allowing researchers to identify new opportunities in any field of research, without thematic priorities.
