
Four main chronic disease federations unite in the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance
On 11 November, Jean-Claude Mbanya (President of the International Diabetes Federation), SB Squire (President of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease) Eduardo Cazap (President of the Union for International Cancer Control) and Pekka Puska (President of the World Heart Federation) announced their intention to drive a ‘global civil-society movement to address non–communicable diseases and their common risk factors of, amongst others, the harmful use of alcohol. The four federations are united into the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance and in the perspective of the September 2011 UN Summit on NCDs, they want to have a bigger weight in front of the Heads of States.
