On 22 July, French centre-right Member of the European Parliament Philippe Juvin tabled a Written Question to the European Commission on liver disease in the next EU Framework Programme for Research. MEP Juvin asked in particular whether the European Commission will ensure that the next EU Framework Programme for Research (FP8) in the field of public health will address liver disease alongside other major health threats (such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases etc.).
Given that EASL has been actively advocating for the inclusion of liver disease in the calls for proposals of the EU Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7), this is an important milestone for EASL, helping to lay down a marker about the need to address liver disease in the next EU Framework Programme for Research. The European Commission now has six weeks to reply.
