EASL and the Chronic Disease Alliance meet with EU Commissioner for Health

On 10 June 2010, EASL presented, together with the Chronic Disease Alliance (CDA), a policy paper on chronic diseases to the European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy, John Dallì.  The policy paper is developed by the Chronic Disease Alliance with EASL’s contribution and addresses common health determinants (tobacco, obesity, lack of exercise, nutrition and alcohol) of the main killers in Europe.

As a result of its EU advocacy activities, EASL was invited to participate in the informal Chronic Disease Alliance, an initiative driven by leading European health advocacy organisations aimed at driving EU policy action on major risk factors of non-communicable diseases.

Commissioner Dallì welcomed the policy paper and announced that he will present a programme of activities in the field of chronic diseases before the summer. The Alliance planned to meet with the co-chairs of the informal groups on 13 July and the next Alliance meeting is likely to be scheduled in the Autumn.
