Chronic Disease Alliance and EASL awarded the European Health Award 2010

On 8 October, the Chronic Disease Alliance (CDA), of which EASL is a member, received the European Health Award 2010 at the 13th European Health Forum in Gastein. The European Health Award is granted annually in connection with the European Health Forum Gastein to projects investing in the improvement of healthcare in Europe.

The organisers honoured in particular the united approach of the CDA, which gathers ten non-profit organisations in the area of healthcare and chronic diseases including liver disease, with the aim to improve preventive measures and provide decision-makers with policy solutions to tackle health determinants including alcohol and obesity.

Following the presentation at the European Parliament of the CDA recommendations by Mark Thursz, Vice-Secretary of EASL and member of the Chronic Disease Alliance, the CDA is looking forward to the opportunity to present these Policy Recommendations to the Belgian Presidency on 20 October 2010. Mark Thursz added “We are [also] looking forward to the EU Health Commissioner’s recommendation on actions to support public health strategies and to curb the health economic burden linked to chronic conditions, such as the harmful use of alcohol”.
