On Wednesday, 29th May, EASL and UEG joined forces to mark World Health Digestive Day with an event in Brussels. World Digestive Health Day 2013 has for theme "LIVER CANCER: Act Today. Save Your Life Tomorrow. Awareness. Prevention. Detection. Treatment." Following the well-attended event EASL and UEG issued a joint press statement emphasising the importance of prioritising liver disease research.
A review of 260 epidemiological studies published in the last 5 years to survey the current state of evidence on the burden of liver disease in Europe and its causes.

In the coming years, EASL's Governing Board shall aim to:

  • Develop our scientific and educational programs within a structured but transparent framework
  • Structure our annual scientific meeting, The International Liver Congressto ensure the selection of high quality and competitive scientific presentations and State-of-the-Art lectures
  • Encourage initiatives to organize monothematic conferences on various aspects of liver disease
  • Provide a continuous forum for basic and clinical education of young investigators through the EASL Schools of Hepatology
  • Coordinate the generation of Clinical Guidelines for optimizing clinical care in a variety of liver diseases
  • Ensure healthy and stable financial reserves of our association
  • Promote the participation of EASL members in the association's activities
  • Foster relationships with the Journal of Hepatology, the official journal of our association
  • Strengthen our relationship with sister societies and patients associations
  • Place liver diseases and research high-up on European policy makers' agendas
