George V. Papatheodoridis
George V. Papatheodoridis is Associate Professor in Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Medical School of Athens University and has been working at Hippokration General Hospital of Athens, Greece, since 1999 (Lecturer: 2000-2004, Assistant Professor: 2004-2009). He was trained in Medicine and completed his MD thesis at the Medical School of Athens University in 1997. He was trained in Gastroenterology at “Tzaneion” General Hospital of Piraeus, Greece and had a 2 year research fellowship in Hepatology at the Royal Free Hospital of London, UK, from 1997 to 1999 working with Andy Burroughs.

Dr Papatheodoridis was the secretary of the Hellenic Association for the Study of Liver and the chairman of its Research Committee (2005-2007). He is now vice secretary of the Hellenic Foundation of Gastroenterology & Nutrition, member of the Governing Board of the Hellenic Gastroenterological Association as well as a member of the Scientific Committee for Viral Hepatitis of the Greek Center for Control of Specific Infections since 2002. He is a member of EASL, AASLD, AGA (fellow) and IASL.

Dr Papatheodoridis’ main research interest has been focused on viral hepatitis, but he has also worked in other research areas of Hepatology and Gastroenterology. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 papers published in international journals having more than 3000 citations. He has served as a reviewer for all gastroenterology and hepatology journals, for many major internal medicine journals (Lancet, Ann Intern Med, BMJ etc) as well as for EASL abstracts and the EU 7th Framework Programme for research. He has received more than 20 awards in Greek scientific meetings.
