
Dr. Zoulim obtained his M.D. in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Lyon Medical School in 1991. He also has a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After post-doctoral training at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where he did his research project under Dr Seeger's supervision, he returned to Lyon. He has been a Professor of Medicine at Lyon I University since 1997. He is currently Medical Director of the Liver Department at the Hôtel Dieu Hospital in Lyon and Scientific Director of the INSERM Unit 871 where he is leading the team on 'Antiviral therapy of viral hepatitis'. He is a recognized expert in the field of anti-HBV therapy and drug resistance. He has been an associate editor of the Journal of Hepatology and is now associate editor for Gut. He also served as an expert in the microbiology study section of the INSERM, and in different national and international committees.
Dr. Zoulim became a member of EASL governing board as Educational Councillor in 2009. He has received the William Prusoff award from the International Society for Antiviral Research in recognition of his work in the field of HBV molecular biology and anti-HBV therapy. Furthermore, he was the scientific coordinator of a European community-funded Network of Excellence on the management of antiviral drug resistance (viRgil project in the FP6). He has published more than 200 articles in the field of viral hepatitis and antiviral therapy.
