Dr. Alessio Aghemo

Alessio Aghemo (MD, PhDreceived his medical degree from the University of Milan in 2001, where he also specialized in gastroenterology and later completed his post-doctoral research in gastroenterology by studying the mechanisms of Ribavirin induced anemia in patients with chronic hepatitis C. 

He currently works at the 1st Gastroenterology Unit at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda, Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, University of Milan, where he is the director of the hepatology outpatients clinic. Since 2007 Dr. Aghemo holds the position of professor at the post-graduate school of gastroenterology.  Dr. Aghemo is currently involved in many national and international clinical trials on the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C virus infection. He has contributed to the Italian and European clinical practice guidelines on the management and treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C. His current research interests focus on improving the individual prediction of treatment outcome in patients undergoing anti-HCV treatment.
